Custom software or off-the-shelf: how to decide
Choosing between a ready-made product and custom software is not a matter of fashion but of fit. A product you can buy works from day one and is maintained by its maker, while custom software matches how you work but has to be defined and built.

A ready-made product is usually the right call when your process is a typical one for your industry and existing tools cover almost all of it. If you are paying for features you never use, or missing only a small detail, configuring it well or extending it slightly may be enough.
Custom starts to make sense when your way of working really differs from what products assume, when you chain several tools with many manual steps, or when one part of the process is what sets you apart and you do not want to squeeze it into a mould.
There is also a middle path: keep what already works and build only what is missing, whether that is a connection between tools or a small app for one task. It tends to be easier to test and avoids replacing the whole system in one go.
To decide, write down what each tool does today, what is missing and what gets in the way. If you would like a second opinion, describe your situation in the form and we will tell you which route looks more reasonable.
